The Finkler Question is a serious reflection on the long-debated and heavily prejudicial "Jewish Question". Through "hilarious" and "satirical" characterization of the neurotic and confused Jewish as well as non-Jewish protagonists, Howard Jacobson uses grief, loss and identity crisis to address the negative stereotypes surrounding Jews, Israel and Zionism as well as discuss the issues in relation to Jewish diaspora,anti-Semitism and cultural(re)construction in contemporary Europe. Globalization has made possible the formation of an interconnected, interdependent and networked international community for cross-cultural communication, through which both hybridization and confrontation of cultures are clearly noticeable. As the pervasive anti-Semitism has pushed Jews to the center of today’s global conflicts, the crossing of different cultures and the clash of opposing ideologies have blurred the cultural identity among diaspora Jews in Britain, leading naturally to an identity crisis.
