柏拉圖提到蘇格拉底曾到三地作戰:波提戴亞、安非波里斯、德里昂,但阿忒奈奧斯對他的記載提出否定。阿忒奈奧斯的目的在于從對哲學家的批判入手否定哲學的權威。他對柏拉圖的史實批駁暴露出種種錯誤,不足為信。柏拉圖的記載基本準確,但受個人感情的影響,他的細節也有待商榷。

Plato referred that Socrates fought three battles,one in Potidaea,one in Amphipolis and another in Delium,but it’s doubted,even denied by Athenaeus,a later writer in the early Roman Empire. Athenaeus sought to challenge philosophy by criticizing philosophers. However,he was not convincing owning to some mistakes in his argument. Basically,Plato’s description was accurate,but it remained to be queried in some details due to his favouritism toward Socrates.
