The paper analyzes the research paradigm on China’s borderland studies put forward by three western scholars,Owen Lattimore,Thomas J.Barfield and Nicola Di Cosmo, and then summarizes the theories and practices of China’s borderland studies from modern China.Based on those, the paper gives a contrast between Chinese theories and western scholars’ theories. At last,a conclusion may be drawn that there is the same research orientation among China’s borderland studies from the Occident, western postmodern historiography researches, and "New Qing history" studies after the 1970-80s.
