在明清王朝大力推行戶籍、賦役制度的背景下, 無論是桂東、桂中流官統治區, 還是桂西的土司地區, 都對相當多的少數民族戶口進行了調查統計, 而桂東、桂中的熟瑤、熟僮先被納入戶籍系統。隨著改土歸流政策的推行, 桂西改流地區的少數民族戶口被編入戶籍系統, 成為王朝的編戶齊民。土司戶口雖然仍未入籍, 土官卻進行了調查統計, 並上報地方官府備案, 成為官府管理土司地方的重要依據。

Under the background of household registration and tax system carried out vigorously by the Ming and Qing dynasties, whatever it is ruling area of outpost officials in eastern and central Guangxi, or chieftain district in western Guangxi, a lot of minority population was surveyed. The population of civilized Yao and Zhuang nationalities was fitted into household registration system in eastern and central Guangxi at first. Along with the advancement of bureaucratization of native officers, minority population of region controlled by new outpost officials was fitted into the household registration in western Guangxi, which became registered residents of the dynasty. Although population of chieftain district still wasn’t fitted into census register, chieftain carried out survey and statistics of population and reported to the local government for the record, which became an important basis for local government to manage chieftain district.
