Father Albert Chao (1917 - 2015), a famous neo-scholastic philosopher in Taiwan, has devoted himself to ethic and ethical education in his whole life. Albert Chao made a great integration on ethical thoughts from eastern and western cultures with his knowledge of Chinese literary and the experience of studying in Europe. Albert Chao was enthusiastic at researching Catholic Scholastic Philosophy. He integrated what he learned from his religion and fulfilled it in the society of Taiwan, especially in ethical education. The ethics education that Albert Chao received came from the influence of Neo-Scholastic Philosophy, the framework of Western ethics and the foundation of Eastern ethics. Although Albert Chao was not the first scholar who studied on Neo-Scholastic Philosophy in ethic, he has had a great influence in ethical education because of his idea of integration of theory and practice. In Albert Chao’s ethic, moral is more important than theory. He emphasized that moral should be performed in reality. He explained theory with practical examples and taught people how to fulfill it. This thesis is going to describe Albert Chao’s influence and contribution to ethic in Taiwan by connecting his fundamental ethics and special ethics theory. His contemporary significance in ethic can be expected to be represented through this thesis.
