It is said that Tui Bei Tu 《推背圖》was written and illustrated by two prophets of the Tang Dynasty (618-906), Li Chunfeng 李淳風 and Yuan Tiangang 袁天綱. The pictures were drawn by Yuan, and the poems were written by Li. In the last illustration of the book (i.e. no. 60), Yuan is seen to be pushing Li's back. Appended to each picture is a poem forecasting the fate of future generations in terms of prosperity and adversity. The poems are equivocal and ambiguous in meaning. The books was banned since the beginning of the Song Dynasty (960-1278). Tui Bei Tu was transmitted orally and copied by hand. That is why almost of the copies differ from each other. This paper introduces the three copies of the Tui Bei Tu which are in the collection of the Sinological Institute Library, Leiden University.
