新竹縣、由於地理環境擁有豐富的自然資源，早期以農業發展為主，然近年來配合台灣經濟的發展，進行都市計劃及各項科技園區發展計畫，使得新竹縣、形成了不平衡之都市結構與地區發展。而過去在國內城鄉發展的研究中，均利用各項城鄉發展指標將研究區域加以分群，而在分群方法土，大多以集群分析(cluster analysis)為主要分析方法，因此本研究期望以城鄉發展之拈標，利用集群分析法將新竹縣、十三鄉鎮市加以分群，以暸解新竹縣、各區域發展之現況、歸屬之類型及發展差異性。 經由文獻探討彙整本研究指標後，本研究以新竹縣政府2002及2003年中之相關次級資料之基礎，利用集群分析將新竹縣各鄉鎮市分成 都市工商發展型、農業發展型及都市與農業發展停滯型等三種發展類型，其中都市工商發展型包含竹北與竹東二個市鎮;農業發展型包含關西、新埔、湖口、寶山、橫山、新豐、芎林、北埔、峨嵋等九個鄉鎮；都市與農業發展停滯型地區包含尖石與五峰二個山地鄉o

In Hsinchu County, based on various nature resources construction developments, its villages, towns and cities have been molded to present different kinds of features. In this paper we study related documents and then use cluster analysis to distinguish the types of the city and town development of. thirteen vil1ages, towns, and cities of Hsinchu County in accordance of diverse developmental indexes. Through data analysis, we have city and town developmental indexes. Next we use the secondary data of Hsinchu county corresponding to the indexes in 2002 and 2003 to divides thirteen villages, towns, and cities of Hsinchu County into three types--the type of urban industry and business development, the type of farming development, and the type of slowing urban and farming development. And generally speaking, the type of urban industry and business development consists of two areas－Chupei and Chutung; the type of farming development, nine villages and towns－Kuansi, Hsinpu, Hukou, Paoshan, Hengshan, Hsinfeng, Chiunglin, Peipu, and Emei; the type of slowing urban and farming development areas include Chienshin and Wufeng.
