The objectives of this research are to trace the history of nursing development and potential characteristics of the process of nursing evolution in Taiwan. The profile of nursing development in Taiwan can be described into 3 stages, namely, stage of foreign church nurses; stage of Japanese colonization; stage of rapid and diversified development. The potential characteristics of these 3 stages in the process of nursing revolution are devotion, dependent oppression, and poor leadership respectively. The information of this research ranged from the period between Japanese colonization and postwar up to now. Research methodology includes verification of historical article review, field visit and dictation interview. It suggests the existing deficiency of nursing history in nursing professionals should improve the research and education of nursing history.
