By reading "A discourse on the Origin of Inequality" of Rousseau, this article will borrow Nietzsche's concept "genealogy"-following the interpretation of Foucault-to explain that Rousseau's "origin" is not subject to the deterministic explanation but to the context of accidental occurrence which is the very meaning of the genealogy. After having clarifying the origin in the sense of genealogy, we try to emphasize that Rousseau's inequality is neither based on the logic of identity, nor on the historical necessity. And we have to ask ourselves what the possibility of equality is.
