Sheng’s Family is comparable with Zheng Guanying ‘s family in late Qing dynasty. This family flourished through Sheng’s brothers (Sheng Shiqing, Sheng Shifing). Sheng Shiqing came to Macau and set up a shop. His brother Sheng Shifing managed it very well. Sheng Shifing learned English, being a comprador and translator between Chinese and foreign merchants, and engaged in the tea and arms business. He previously had a career as an officer in the Qing government, but it failed. His family members died one by one. He wanted to do business again but failed. In 1895, upon by his death, his family began to decline.
