The objective of this research is to investigate the conition and relat ed influential factors of the cancer patients and their families to the terminal care request.In a medical center in central Taiwan, the purposive sampling method and questionnaire were used to collect the information from 78 hospitalized cancer patients and their 85 families who participated in caring for them. The qualitative results of statistic analysis for this study are shown as follows: 1.The psychological consolation to the patients is considerd most important for both the patients and their families. 2.The care of physical pains and other physical problems of the patients has the highest statistical rating among all the requests. 3.There are no distinct differences in the viewpoints of the patients and their families regarding the request of dying cancer patients except in notifying the diagnostic results, helping patient's families to hide the diagnostic results, and helping patient's families to take care of patient's remains. 4.In the influential factors with regard to the cognition of the request of the dying cancer patients, the patient's viewpoints show distinct discrepancies regarding the differences of age, the number of children, and education; however, their family's viewpoints are the same. 5.85.9% patients would like to accept the care in the terminal care ward, and 97.4% patients would like to have the care of the terminal care team. 6. 83.5% Patient's families want the patients to have the care in the teminal care ward, and 98.8% families want the patients to have the care of the terminal care team. 7.the main reason that the patients don't like to have the care in the terminal care ward, is being afraid to be separated from their families.
