日據時代臺灣的農民組織是當時農業界的一大勢力團體，它是在1925年所成立於 高雄的「鳳山農民組合」為最早， 然後繼有大甲、 二林、竹崎、曾文等農民組合 (農會 ) 的成立，才成為全島 (省 ) 普遍性的農民組織。 同時，勞工問題或勞資糾紛在當時的臺灣 並不普遍，但是受到農民運動的影響，加上勞工知識也越來越高，所以勞工運動也非常劇烈 。不過臺灣當時的農民與勞工的社會運動是除與一般社會運動爭取自由或生存權利外，還具 有複雜的民族情結在內。所以這些運動不但是一種社會經濟運動，而且也是一種民族意識的 運動。
