Chang-hu (792AD∼853AD) was one of the most famous poets in the mid and late Tang Dyuasty. He was distinguished for his works on songs and poems, having "A Collection of Chang's Pomes" passes down to posterity. His biography did not appear neither in "The New History of Tang" nor in "The old History of Tang". THe was only briefly metioned in "The Bibliographical Sketch of the New History of Tang". Moreover, he was mentioned a little more in "Biographies of Distinguished Scholars in Tang Dynasty" and "Narratives of Poems in the Tang Dynasty", without any record of his birth and death dates. As a consequence, a modern researcher Yin Chan-Hua wrote a paper entitled "Annual Activity Records of Chang-hu" to specify Chang's life events in detail. There are five volumes in "A Collection of Chang's Poems", including 359 poems with approximately one fourth being song and poems. Among Chang-hu's songs and poems only 55 were found in "A comprehensive Collection of Songs and Poems". These are however the best of his poems. In addition to folk songs, Chang-hu's songs and poems include both old-titled and new-titled songs and poems. This paper was mainly concerned about describing separately all type of subjects that apprared in Chang-hu's songs and poems. Typical poems were Chosen and their key features were analyzed. Chang-hu's songs and poems were the best of his works. In his works we may catch the feeling of the transition of times, from mid to late-Tang Dynasty. Among all of his poems, songs and poems for the frontier lands appeared to be most special for its touching expression. It is often said that Chang-hu was a famous poets in the mid and late Tang Dyuasty, which is certainly what he deserved to be.
