In the early period after World War H, most of Taiwan's local gazetteers were basically traditional gazetteers. The contents of chapter of society in the local gazetteers of the village (town) were completed at that time. According to the research, the “Gazetteer of Shu Lu” and the “Gazetteer of Pe Tou” had reflected the social situations of the time. However, the general planning of these two gazetteers were not very well. The reference material, both in collecting and utilizing, were mostly from the records of documents not from investigation information. Therefore, there was a large space to be improved. The ideal way to compile the chapter of society was pointed out in thiS research. The chapter of society should focused on the field work and put the village (town) as the main point. Moreover, the contents of each chapter should not overlap.
