在學界的討論中,何為族群性(ethnicity)存在著諸多爭議。這一概念既被認為是一種需要被解釋的分析性對象,也被視作一種可用來理解人類存在之重要面向的解釋性原則。而族群性到底是否足以形塑我們日常的社會和物質生活,還是被另外的力量和結構所決定。更進一步而言,族群性與種族、階層和民族主義存在著怎樣的聯繫?這些都是學界關於族群性研究的根本問題。本文借助非洲的例子,試圖從五個方面來闡釋族群性的本質,以期理解其歷史特徵和在實際經驗中的多種形式。
