  從「單一歷程(single process)」理論模型而言,字的發音歷程是受到拼字屬性與字音的連結關係所影響。因此漢字的「聲旁」對發音歷程的影響並非來自聲旁本身的發音,而是聲旁拼字與含旁字字音之連結關係是否具有一致性才造成對發音歷程的影響。本研究採用唸名作業(naming task),先以三個實驗探討聲旁的「發音」、「聲母」、「韻母」、「聲調」與「位置」等屬性對漢字發音歷程的影響;然後使用含旁字發音彼此相同但與聲旁發音不同的「例外但一致」含旁字進行「一致性」的研究。本研究發現,聲旁的屬性固然會影響發音歷程,但是與聲旁本身發音不同的「例外但一致」含旁字仍然有一致性效果。本研究認為,這些結果意謂著漢字的發音歷程是字彙接觸(lexical access)之後再進行提取字音訊息的運作模式,因而受到拼字屬性與字音的連結關係是否具有一致性之影響;由此可見,漢字的發音歷程符合「單一歷程」模式的想法。
