Science communication, risk culture and organizational discourse introduce one another option for the study of climate change which is the next science communication and brings out another thinking approach for contemporary risk society research. This study intends to investigate thoroughly into the actors in the present age of climate change, as well as their interactions in between. Meanwhile, the promotion of cultural practice is also of significance to the study field of climate change. By means of the inter-reflection between the construction of theory and the interpretive empirical research, this study is built on the risk theories of Beck, Giddens and Lash, employing the interface of thought consisting of Lewensteine, van Dijck, Rouse, Gross, Chia, Alvesson, Foucualt and Deleuze’s works concerning the science communication, organizational discourse, rhetoric, discourse analysis and culture study. In addition, there is a closer inquiry into those discourses made from all the actors in Taiwan’s science communication community to frame and construct the appropriate type and position of organization with deep reflection, scientific practice and revolutionary awarness of climate change.
Based on the approach of organizational discourse analysis, this study focuses on how the interpretation to climate change is constructed in the organization. Moreover, this kind of future-oriented and strategic practice refers to a positive, active, inventive, initiative and meaning-empathized scientific culture. Foreseeably, the attributes of extreme weather events and climate change compel contemporary society to have science and culture combined altogether profoundly. Human’s action principle therefore will need to generate a brand new ethical, aesthetic and everyday life’s relationship.
This study concludes that the institution of atmospheric science, environmental NGO and media organization build their own climate change knowledge which are called scientific modernity, green awareness, and pragmatism. They also play separately the role of “canary, whistleblower, resister and gospeller.” to enact the cultural practice of climate change. In other words, risk culture in the era of climate change shall be provided with the characteristics of post-normal science, diverse politics, future orient and self-cultivation. Finally, these construction and practice of climate change discourses will outline the contemporary risk culture along with futures-responsive attribute and create the vision of the future civil society.
