The purpose of this dissertation is to study and compare the historical aspects of the Japanese language education in Okinawa after the abolition of the han system and Taiwan's Japanese education during Japan's colonization in 1880 (13th year of Meiji era).
Recently, the study of the Japanese education has been emphasis only on the aspects regard toward " national language" or " Japanese language" study of the each location as a single focused point. However, In order to deeply study in wider perspective, I believe we should classified the timeline of the Japanese language study in both Okinawa and Taiwan into several historical periods in order to make a more profound and accurate comparsion.
Separate Okinawa's language learning periods into (1) Tokyo language period 1879 to 1897. (2) Normal language period 1897 to 1935. (3) Standard language period 1935 to 1945.
As for Taiwan, we can separate the learning periods into (1) The fumble period. 1895 to 1919. (2) The confirmation period 1919 to 1922. (3) The period which Taiwanese & Japanese are studying together 1922 to 1943. (4) Japanese education as an obligation period 1943 to 1945.
In further looking into the three elements with the educational environment as related to the acceptance level by local population, the progress development of the textbook, the advancement of the teaching methods by comparsion with historical document, graphic material and statistics material.
It is cofirmed that my point is correct, in order to study the Japanese language education in Okinawa and Taiwan, we are unable to focus on " single national language" or " Japanese language" as only aspect to cover all periods such as follows, the Japanese language education period, the in between period and national language.
