The effectiveness of augmented reality in teaching has attracted worldwide attention.
Moreover, it has been used widely and heavily in daily life, whether in games, medical treatment, car navigation, social interaction, or education. In recent years, augmented reality and e-books have been commonly used in teaching. Research has pointed out that augmented reality is effective in the field of education. In the teaching field of makeup design, few studies have proposed using augmented reality to assist learning in the makeup design courses. This research conducted two quasi-experimental studies to explore augmented reality and e-book learning effectiveness for students with different learning styles. Experiment 1, a total of 52 students participated, used augmented reality and traditional methods to conduct a quasi-experiment. The experimental results found that augmented reality can effectively improve students' effectiveness and motivation. Experiment 2, students were divided into two types, active and reflective, based on their learning styles. They used augmented reality and e-books to explore the results of the makeup design course. A total of 70 students participated in the research.
The research results showed that augmented reality had improved students' effectiveness, effectively improved students' self-efficacy, and reduced their cognitive load. However, there are no significant differences in motivation, satisfaction, and technological acceptance. The research indicates that using these two learning methods can bring students good motivation, satisfaction, and technological acceptance. In general, augmented reality is suitable for the makeup design courses in vocational high school, which can improve effectiveness, improve students' self-efficacy, and reduce the cognitive load of reflective students. The research results are expected to provide suggestions to educators or system developers and develop augmented reality in relevant teaching fields to assist students in learning in the future.
