The Jin Ping Mei reflects the huge gap between politics and economy in the late Ming Dynasty, as well as the serious gap induced by the awakening of self-consciousness and desire in the late Ming Dynasty. It is women who are directly implicated. Jin Ping Mei has brought us rich plot and content. In the process of reading, we know the living conditions of the people in the city at that time, and also felt the Subjective Violence, Objective Violence and Liberating Violence.
This thesis is divided into seven chapters. For the various fields of violence mentioned above, I try to use the "intermedium connection" proposed by my thesis advisor to understand the sources and results of various violence related to politics, economy, family, and sexual culture in the novel. In the process of writing the thesis, I also used Žižek's theory of "Violence" as the basis of my research to better understand the author's motivation and meaning. In order to facilitate the research on the violent phenomenon of Jin Ping Mei, I return to the desire of "human" in everything in the thesis, and fully expand the explanation of the life instinct of "human" contained in the novel. In this way, the originality of the thesis can be seen, and the research significance of benefiting "Studies of Jin Ping Mei" can be enhanced. This thesis mainly analyzes chapters 3 to 6 on the novel’s text, it using the three orientations of "Subjective Violence", "Objective Violence" and "Liberative Violence" in Žižek's theory, and then using Lacan's three definitions of "The Imaginary", "The Symbolic" and "The Real" are used as assistants to study desire issues at various levels. Looking at the various forms of violence in Jin Ping Mei, it can be seen that Xi Men Qing and his family were placed by the author under the background of the turbulent era, and they could not escape its serious tragedy in the end: "Desire (source)—Violence (intermediary)—Tragedy (result)". However, there are several points that must be paid attention to in connection with this kind of connection, for this reason, although Xi Men Qing's identity as the "leader of the family" is the core of the description in the world novel Jin Ping Mei, there is no lack of tragic descriptions of important women in the family. This is the perfection of this novel. It fully narrates the ending of the whole family, and also shows care and sympathy to women, rather than just showing "desire catharsis" one-sidedly to readers.
In addition, the various violent phenomena in Jin Ping Mei let us see the desire in people's hearts is what life should face up to. So, Jin Ping Mei pays more attention to the display of people's desires. All kinds of scandals in the story make us feel a "Qi" of social corruption, and this "Qi" is the embodiment of desire. Through the flow of "Qi" in Jin Ping Mei, it is like watching a vivid and real film, and we can also see the dawn of "goodness" from the author's high-level creation technique. As a novel with social educational significance in the late Ming Dynasty, Jin Ping Mei is worthy of our reference and aftertaste, and we can appreciate the "truth", "goodness" and "beauty" of life from its violent forms.
