本文從一宏觀角度檢視台灣與歐聯經濟關係之發展，尤其從歐洲觀點加以分析。台歐關係涉及後冷戰、歐洲整合及國際環境之轉變。歐聯與台灣、中共之三角關係也不能被忽略，因為台灣與中共同時爭取歐聯對其加入WTO之支持。台灣已漸漸成為歐聯之一個重要經濟伙伴，然而雙方仍存在一些貿易糾紛。在政治及組織層級，台歐經濟交往仍維持非正式關係，此乃台灣外交處境導致之限制。台灣之正式加入WTO，預期將提供更多機會，促進台歐經濟關係之發展。

This study takes a broad overview on the development of Taiwan-EU economic relations with a particular emphasis on the European position. These relations are evolving in the context of the end of the Cold War, the wider impact of Euro-pean integration and changes in the multilateral domain. The Taiwan-EU-China diplomatic triangle also cannot be ignored, especially as both Taiwan and China have sought EU support of their respective bids to become WTO members. Taiwan has become an increasingly important economic partner for the EU. However certain persistent trade disputes remain. At the poli-tico-institutional level, Taiwan-EU economic diplomacy remains informalised with Taiwan’s contested sovereignty con-straining the development of more formalised links and dialogue. Yet Taiwan’s entry into the WTO will broaden the options of this diplomacy and present new opportunities for nurturing closer Taiwan-EU economic relations in general.
