In this paper, we analyze the roles of the Dublin Code (DC) in library communities from various aspects, such as the experiences from the use of MARC, the user's needs, and the benefits of data integration. The conclusion is that we shall ONLY apply the DC to "the generic data," which include bibliographies, web pages, and journal databases. In this way, we can integrate all existing data without establishing a complicated system for various data formats.
