In the health care market, the asymmetry of knowledge generally exists between the patients and physicians. While the physicians have the dominant influence over health service utilization, the consumer sovereignty of patients becomes limited. Because of their double role as normal suppliers and agents for the patients, the physicians might have a complicated decision regarding their supply of services. The aim of this paper is to investigate the possible behavior models of physicians within the framework of patient-physician relationship and the supply of physician services under different behavior models. It is hoped to offer insights for the planning of health insurance policy through the construction of theoretical models in economics.
