英文字母拼讀法,Phonics,一直是一個熱門的話題。隨著英語課程的正式納入小學教育,這個話題更熱門了。到底什麼是英文字母拼讀法?它的理論架構是什麼?市面上到處買得到進口的和本土出版的拼讀法練習本。練習本中提供大量的拼字組型的練習和字音對應的練習。難道拼讀法就是這麼一堆練習題的堆砌嗎?那些原是設計給英美國家孩童使用的拼讀法練習本真的適合我們國內的孩童使用嗎?本土出版的練習題又適用嗎?本文從解釋拼讀法這個語詞切入,帶出拼讀法「見字拼音」之後的那個「循音找義」階段的重要性。文中也將談到拼讀法的前奏-聲韻覺識-的必要性及其發展過程和培訓活動。孩童的字發展過程和拼讀法的關係、韻文教學和拼讀法的關係、國內外孩童的英文讀物和拼讀法的四仯都是文中討論的重點。文章曘後更提出一些教學建議。

Phonics is not a specific teaching method. There are any ways to teach phonics. However, what most types of phonics instruction have in common is that they focus on the teaching of sound-spelling relationships so that the reader can come up with the pronunciation of word and then search in his/her oral vocabulary for the meaning of this speech code. Presented in this article is the retainable for this belief and its practice. The topics covered are 1)phonological processing, the prerequisite to Phonics, 2)the developmental stages of word recognition and Phonics, 3)spelling patterns and Phonics, 4)rime-based instruction and Phonics, 5)Children’s readers and Phonics, and 6)suggestions to teaching English to young children as a foreign language.
