The EU’s position in the international relations is getting more
important than ever. China’s economics has also developed very rapidly
since the beginning of 1990’s. Therefore, the relationship between the EU
and China is worth being explored.
As this paper observes, the EU concluded economic and trade treaties
with China after the establishment of official relations in 1975. But the
violent suppression of Tiananmen Square protest had caused widespread
condemnation of the PRC government within the EU. Then, their
interactions almost stopped.
In the beginning of 1990’s, the Asian thriving economy made the EU
begin to change its China policy. Until 2003, the direction of China policy
had become rather clear. Nonetheless, there have been some disputes
between the EU and China. This is what the paper is looking into.
