Fire protection designs for subway station and railway tunnels in Taiwan are categorized as special buildings, and should follow NFPA 130 or the local fire code so called “Standard for Installation of Fire Safety Equipments Based on Use and Occupancy”. However, based on characteristics of spaces and uses, there is adaptability problems to follow the local fire code on firefighting, egress sign, and smoke management equipments for subway station and railway tunnels. This research is to study the problems caused by the fire code and standards used by the designers applying on the subway station and railway tunnels fire protection equipments. Problems are clarified through interviewing specialists, so that the solutions can be found out and be offered to designers for references.
