洪堡德是現代地理學的奠基者之一。他對科學與藝術有意的結合，以及闡明藝術與自然之統一性的看法，奠立地理學的一種美學傳統。本文想與洪堡德美洲探險考察的自述體《個人敘述》的文本，探究受到德國浪漫主義影響的洪堡德，如何歌頌美洲景觀的壯觀與多樣性，如何展現其所秉持之藝術與科學統一性的思想，進而彰顯其美洲旅行是一深具藝術與科學性質的活動。

Alexander von Humboldt is one of the founders of modern geography. Humboldt, who consciously combined science with art, especially illuminated the view of the unity of art and science, has laid solid foundation for an aesthetic tradition in geography. This paper will broadly describe the nature of Humboldt's journey to America at first, and then makes investigations into the relation between Humboldt and German Romanticism. This paper will further suggest that Humboldt's Personal Narrative is a work of art and science.
