The purpose of this study was to analyze the research results and the focuses of the theses and dissertations on computer-based assessments in Taiwan. Ho(1997) classified the developmental tendency of computer based assessments into three parts- - computer-based tests, computerized adaptive tests, and web-based tests. This analyzing structure was used in this study to analyze recent studies. Seventy-eight related these and dissertations in Taiwan were found and analyzed. Ten of them were about computer-based tests, thirty-five of them were about computerized adaptive tests, and thirty-three of them were about web-based tests. The results showed seven important findings. First, The computer-based assessments mainly focused on computerized adaptive tests and web-based tests. Second, most of the web-based tests were traditional computer-based tests. Third, the number of studies on computer-based tests increased in the recent five years, especially in masters theses. Fourth, the main researchers on computer-based tests were from graduate schools of information, and the second source of the researchers came from graduate schools of assessment. Fifth, the research topics were focused on the construction of the system and the evaluation of system effectiveness. Sixth, the samples of the studies were children. Seventh, the main research method was systematic analysis. In the end, some suggestions about the future directions of the computer-based studies were made.
