婦女在經歷更年期的過程中,必須面對一連串生理功能的劇烈改變,其中因雌激素分泌減少所導致之骨質流失,進一步可能造成骨質疏鬆症的發生,此稀鬆的骨質在個體不慎跌倒時,將會增加骨折的發生率。太極拳運動除了已被廣泛證實其對心血管系統、肌肉系統等有貢獻外,近年來又進一步有文獻證實此運動有減緩停經後婦女骨質流失的效果,但實際作用機制爲何仍需進一步探討。本文統整過去實證性研究文獻,並針對研究中常見的問題及限制作討論,發現太極拳運動確實可以減緩停經後女性的骨質流失率或增加其骨質密度,這些研究證據提供了停經後婦女與骨質疏鬆症患者另一項減緩骨質流失的運動選擇,同時,也提供了一項對抗骨質疏鬆症的研究新方向。
