Patterns and the Types of Techniques of World-class Men's Singles Badminton Player: Lin Dan Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the competitive patterns and types of techniques of Lin Dan. Method: A total of 11 matches from 2006~2007 were video taped. The videotapes were then notated frame by frame to analyze the player's strokes through computerized notational analysis. Descriptive statistics, Independent t test, Chi-square test and Test of homogeneity of proportions were used to analyze the results. Results: In this study, each time per rally was 8.83±7.04 seconds and the average stroke time was 0.83±0.17 seconds. In addition, 5~12 shots per point was the most frequently appeared. The shot selections of serve, the return of service and the finishing shot have apparent differences in the level of significance. Conclusion:Lin Dan shows higher intensity among competitive patterns. Therefore, trainers and trainees can enhance pre-training according to Lin Dan's stroking habits among types of techniques. In the future, researchers could analyze this case with more variables and offer more information to the coaches and the badminton players.
