零至6歲學齡前階段是認知發展的重要時期，藉由閱讀可以促進大腦與語言發展，並為日後閱讀能力、學習成就，乃至健全人格奠定基礎。本文說明學齡前兒童認知與語言發展、可應用之閱讀技巧，以及介紹公共圖書館學齡前閱讀服務與閱讀環境。
Children from 0 to 6 years old are in the important period of life, and reading enhances their brain and language development, and builds the basis for later reading ability, for learning achievement, and for healthy personality. This paper introduces young children’s cognition and language development and appropriate reading skills; reading services and reading environment for young children in public libraries.
