Using a 25-item multiple discourse completion test developed by the researchers, this pilot study aims to investigate the participants' opinions toward harmonious communication in Haiko City, Hainan, and investigate the views those participants regard as appropriate to communicate with others. Data from the survey showed that there were differences among different demographic groups, such as genders, education, etc. Most of them practice politeness principles, cooperative principles, negative face principle and appropriate utterance. Through the statistical and theoretical analysis, the results will suggest an example for harmonious communication.
