Environmental stimulation plays an essential role in facilitating creative thinking. In this case, a creative working and studying environment could possibly facilitate design students’ creative thinking during their design process. However, the working and studying environment of Hong Kong design students are limited and dreadful. It is difficult to establish a heuristic space for enhancing their creativity. This paper is divided into two halves, the first half discusses the importance of environmental factors for creative thinking as well as art and design education; the second half reports the result of a study on the working and studying environment of Hong Kong design students. This paper suggests the virtual environment could be one of the possible ways to create a heuristic shared space for facilitating design students’ creativity.
