The applications of biometric techniques to different fields have reached fairly many research achievements in recent years. Among these fields, facial recognition technology has been greatly improved upon. Under the premises that images' illuminant and angle can meet certain basic needs, the verification accuracy rate has greatly risen along with verification time being vastly reduced. Since the 9/11 attacks, governments all over the world have improved funding towards this field, whilst continuously attempting to implement this technology to homeland security, immigration control, and public security. Since 2009, our organization, the Ministry of the Interior, National Police Agency, has also been working on generating facial recognition technology and verification system. Until now, this initial work has already paid off and will bring massive benefits in the foreseen future to police organizations. These benefits include crime detection, order maintenance, people searching, and identification verifying. For practical applications in the future, it will cater more to front-line police officers' needs and expand the efficiency of maintaining public security by combining video surveillance systems interfacing with portable police devices via backstage cloud computing technology to provide quick and consistent verification result.
