The successful and sustainable development of canoe sports depend on well operation of relevant organizations and effective strategies. The American Canoe Association (ACA) is the first established canoe and kayak association in the world, and it has 130-year history since founded in 1880. The ACA plays a paramount role in the development of canoe and kayak sport, water environmental awareness, training of instructors and promoting the sport to youth athletes. This article studied ACA from three dimensions, including the development history, organizational operations and association to explore how ACA operated on promotion and development of canoe sports, and what strategies made them successful. The results of this study provide suggestions relating to canoe sports' promotion and development for Taiwan's canoe organizations. The recommendations show the first way is to educate canoeist about the importance of aquatic environment field; secondly, water safety education is to be enhanced. Thirdly, sets up the skill classification systems for players, more, it is to actively cooperate with schools, and finally it is to develop canoe's adaptation courses.
