The plum blossom is the dominant flower in the Chinese poetry field which gives praise to flowers. The trend of praising plum blossom reaches it peak in the declining Song Dynasty. The literary trend cultivates the plum-blossom poetry made by the talented female Zhu Shuzhen in the Song Dynasty. Zhu Shuzhen is the female poet who is as well-known as Li Qingzao in the Song Dynasty. Much of her works are about a woman’s lament and self-pity. Nevertheless, there are detailed, honest, and bold descriptions of a female's chamber life and her mental sphere. This is not only the characteristics of Zhu's poetry but also an achievement that most male poets can not reach. This essay aims to discuss the romantic fantasy of an adolescent girl, the lament of a young wife, and the self-awareness of a female poet in the plum-blossom poems that are the dominant ones in Zhu's flower-praising poems. Moreover, the essay attempts to discover the subtle world of a female which is the truest presentation of female self-awareness through her works that appreciate the plum blossom.
