"College Students' Mental Health" is a required course for Chinese students. After a textual analysis of 15 textbooks, the authors find that under the concept of "chastity education," sex education is neglected and rife with gender inequality in education. These textbooks emphasize the possible adverse impact of college students' love; knowledge is obsolete, and generally adopt a negative attitude toward sex; lack the human rights perspective, and stigmatize multi-dimensional sexual phenomenon like homosexuality. The authors believe that such materials would be disadvantageous to the college students' mental health, and they propose several recommendations to truly promote the positive development of the college students in the field of sexual health, including strengthen sex education in schools, comprehensively rewrite the content in mental health textbooks involving love and sex based on sexual human rights perspective, absorb the latest achievements of the international sex research, and provide training opportunities for college psychology teachers and psychological counselors.
