The main purpose of this study was to investigate the current status of recreational sports participation motivation of public senior high school students, as well as to compare the difference in recreational sports participation motivation of public senior high school students. This study selected the students studying in the second semester in public senior high schools in Mianli County in 2011 academic year as the population. This study used stratified random sampling to distribute a total of 1,620 questionnaires, and 1,436 valid questionnaires were returned, with a valid return rate of 88.64%. This study used descriptive statistics, t test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson Product-moment correlation to perform statistical analyses on the data. The research results were as follows: For the current status of recreational sports participation motivation of public senior high school students in Miaoli County, the score of subscales of various dimensions from the highest to the lowest was: "physical fitness," "pressure relieving," "psychology," "intellectuality," and "social interactions." The difference in gender, school scale, socioeconomic environment, and number of days of sports participation had a significant effect on the overall recreational sports participation motivation of senior high school students. However, the different in dimensions, such as grade, socioeconomic background, and occupation of parents did not have a significant effect on it.
