The late Ming to early Qing Dynasty was the epoch of dramatic changes. In addition to political power transfer, the economy of the cities within the Jiangnan (江南) region was highly developed, and the material culture became the mainstream of urban life. In the period, Li Yu had multiple identities as a writer, playwright, gardener, and publisher. However, it is a spiritual exit to fit careers into writing and theatergoing for those who frustated by their political careers. During Ming and Qing Dynasties, garden life style and intellectuals were combined to display a special culture of scholars. The delicate mind of scholars and Li Yu's aesthetic life experiences mixed together. Li Yu family troupe and theatergoers in garden should be in good taste. Herewith, we intend to illustrate the interrelationships among garden, literature, dramatic performance, and human life.
