     The purpose of this study was to analyze patterns of teacher location, and proximity to target students during regular elementary physical education classes. The subjects were 30 (15 males and 15 females)elementary physical education teachers in three school districts in Central Arizona. Classes were videotaped so permanent records would be available for subsequent data collection. Data collected from the coding of the videotaped so permanent records would be available for subsequent data collection. Data collected from the coding of the videotapes were complied into percentages for nine location and proximity variables. Six tapes were recorded for checking observer agreement. The Scored-Interval method for calculating Inter-Observer Agreement produced a range of 96.3%-100% which was sufficient to indicate that the observations were reliable. The results of this study showed that for observations of teacher location, teachers, spent the largest percentage of their class time in the Periphery. When in Periphery, they located themselves predominantly on the Side. Observations regarding proximity to target student showed that teachers spent the majority of their time in the proximities designated as Adjacent followed by Opposite and Same. Throughout the whole class period and the lesson focus segment, teachers spent significantly more time in the center sector during transitions (T5) than during episodes of motor activity (SMM5).
