Authoring software is beecoming a necessary tool for tieveloping interactive
software. This article describes three hasie categories of tools echicatorsmay use to
produce courseware : 1. tratlitional programming languages ; 2. authoring languages,
inchiding hypertext authoring languages ; 3. authoring systems and authoring aids.
Each category is evaluated in terms of flexibilityand complexily. Then. the selection
criterion for developing interactive multimedia program are also discussed in detail.
