　　　　　隨著網路科技的進步與應用，圖書館漸由圖書館自動化邁向虛擬圖書館的階段。 何謂虛擬圖書館呢？而且與電子圖書館、數位圖書館、無牆圖書館有何分野？本文嘗試釐 清這些名辭的觀念及其差異，同時論述學術交流模式在虛擬圖書館趨勢下，所衍生的變化 及其引發的相關問題。最後，本文作者試從虛擬圖書館與學術交流模式環境下，提出圖書 館未來的角色定位及其任務。
　　　　　By advancement and application of the network technology, the libraries become evolving from the automation to the virtual library. But what is the virtual library? What's the difference among these concepts of virtual library, electronic library, digital library and library without walls? The purpose of this article is to clarify these concepts and their difference. Additionally, to discuss the changes and problems to the system of scholarly communication under the virtual library environment. Finally the author presents his own opinions to the library role in the future both from the virtual library and system of scholarly communication viewpoints.
