Library laws have been recognized professionally as the foundation of sound librarianship.
Most of the developed countries have formulated pertinent library laws which serve as the guideline
for the development of librarianship in their countries. In 1994, the Republic of China on Taiwan

The author, as one of the participants in the library law drafting process, first reports the
historical background of library laws in China, describes the law making process of the current
Chinese library laws, and then analysizes their text in detail.
