　　　　　本文之目的概述主題法之意義與類型、主題標目之理論與發展， 探討西文標題表 之應用及其因應線上目錄主題檢索所作之改進與未來發展，概述中文標題表在臺灣地區及中 國大陸之發展現況，探討臺灣地區中文標題表編製及應用之困難與可行之解決方案，並研議 未來之發展方向。 本文對於我國臺灣地區目前所採用之〔中文圖書標題表〕之未來發展提出以下建言：該標題 表之理論尚稱周延，體例亦可謂完備；但其本身之缺失及應用之困難，本文有以下六項建議 ；增加該標題表標詞收錄之數量；進行標題詞之詞彙控制；利用〔中國機讀編目格式〕中之 定長欄位以替代部份複分標題詞之功能；定期公告增改與刪除之標題詞並編製標引手冊；建 立全國性標題機讀權威檔；利用該標題表以整理網路資源。如此則我國長久延宕闕如的中文 主題標目（或標題）在現在的〔中文圖書標題表〕的基礎上，當可逐步改進，發揮其所應具 備之功能。
　　　　　This paper is to discuss the theory and practice of subject headings, the principle and application of subject heading lists in various countries, and the present situation of Chinese subject heading list in Taiwan. This paper makes some suggestions for the improvement of the [Chinese Subject Headings] (Chinese SH) here in Taiwan as follows: to increase the number of subject headings; to control the vocabulary to be used as the subject headings; to use fixed fields of [Chiense MARC] performing partial function of subdivision in [Chinese SH]; to announce the addition, correction and deletion of subject headings regularly and compile User's Manual; to establish national subject heading authority file in MARC format; to use [Chinese SH] to organize the internet resources. In doing so, the [Chinese Subject Headings] will be improved and be able to provide better subject searching service to library users here in Taiwan, Republic of China.
