Most of the surveys of road pavements in Taiwan are evaluated by manpower. As the results are generally subjective, they may cause poor quality of survey data and inefficiency of the survey procedures. Based on the characteristics of high-speed and correctness of the Multi-Laser Profiolmeter (MLP), this study uses the system to gather the data of road pavements in Taipei. The main output data are IRI and RUT Indices. These data are analyzed, using the Cluster Analysis and the Discriminant Analysis. The hit rate is 96% on the two-step Cluster Analysis and the Discriminant rate is 94% on Discriminant Analysis. By the Discriminant Analysis, we also construct discriminant functions of pavement qualities in Taipei. The conclusion of this study is validated, compared with the survey done by the Taipei city government. Through the process of this study, we hope to offer a more extensive and economic way to collect road pavement quality data. These data can provide reasonable indices for the generation of road maintenance strategies.
