The concepts and the methods used in this study were from the theory of consumer behavior concerning consumer need and customer satisfaction. One of the purposes of this study was to analysis if college students' need of choosing physical education class could be separated into several different need styles. The other one was to investigate the differences of expectation (E), perception (P), and need satisfaction (P-E) of each need factor among the students who have different need styles. "Survey of College Students' Need Satisfaction of Choosing Physical Education Class" designed by the researcher of this study was used as the research instrument. The 634 National Taiwan University students who took tennis classes in the second semester of 1996 school year served as the subjects of the study. The obtained data were analyzed by factor analysis, cluster analysis, t-test, and ANOVA. The following results were found under this study: 1.The eight tennis class students' need factors of Choosing physical education class were: interested recreation, society mutuality, physical health, sports skill, psychological affection, performance of participation, grade, and emotional relaxation. 2.The tennis class students' need factors of choosing physical education class could be separated into five need styles including recreational health style, society mutuality style, sports skill style, performance of participation style, and grade style. 3.There were significant differences among the five different need styles student on the expectation and the perception of the eight need factors (P<.01). Moreover, the recreational health style students were satisfied with the following three factors: society mutuality, performance of participation, and grade. The society mutuality style students were satisfied with the following six factors: physical health, sports skill, psychological affection, performance of participation, grade, and emotional relaxation. The sports skill styles students were satisfied with the following two factors: performance of participation and grade. The students of the performance of participation style were satisfied with the following two factors: society mutuality and grade. The grade style students were not satisfied with all the eight need factors.
