圖書館學在二十世紀有長足的進步和發展。然而自1970年代以來，資訊科學的
興起，改變了圖書館學唯我獨尊的局面。本文探討圖書館學之意義、理論基礎和研究範圍，
試圖在過去百年來發展的軌跡中，尋找出圖書館學不變的素質與特徵，使其在與資訊科學的
結合中，不致失去自我而繼續適存於二十一世紀的新時代中。

The emergence of information science since 1970 has changed the monopoly
of library science in the area of managing library materials and information sources.
This paper is to discuss the meaning, theoretical foundation, and study areas in
library science that trying to find out the basic elements and characteristics of
the subject field. In this study, the author hopes to see that library science would
survive all the challenges through its cooperation with information science. Thus,
library and information science could become one united study of subject field that
library science will not extinct in the 21st century.
