Based on the history of the translation of the works of Jorge Amado, a Brazilian writer, in China since 1949, this essay intends to not only analyze the background in which the writer and his works were introduced into China, but also discuss the relationship between translation and power. The translation of Jorge Amado’s works can be mainly divided into two important periods: the 1950 s and the 1980 s, showing two different types of relationship between translation and power: 1. The translation under power, which means that power can manipulate translation; 2. The power of translation, meaning that translation can also play a role to affect power.
