The use of new media in the university libraries has become a general trend. The majority of libraries inChina now have microblog and We Chat. However,most university libraries do not make clear distinction betweenthese two applications and the contents provided are essentially the same. In order to understand the similarities anddifferences between these two kinds of applications,this paper analyzed and compared the status of the microblogand We Chat of 16 sample libraries in the aspects of updating frequency,push content,information presentation,life cycle of messages,user comment and acceptance,so on. Suggestions on improving microblog services ofuniversity libraries were offered at the end.
