French novelist Patrick Modiano often describes memory. In his description, we can also read the description of illusions and dreams. By means of the internal non-linear time, these particular moments, together with the memony writing, constitute in his novels "virtual images" proposed by Deleuze. As a special form of memory, dreams and illusions have a one-to-many relationship with reality, making the narrative of the author develop at different levels and remain closely related to reality. The description of illusions and dreams uncovers the characters’ psychology which in turn helps to explain their behavior. The "virtual images" add a sense of image full of imagination and creation. Dreams and illusions become a virtual word diffrent from the real world, which makes his art a unique way of gaining an insight of life. His art is thus recognized as an alternative approach to recording human destiny.
